Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to a very special corner of the world: Minnesota’s North Shore, or the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Even as a child who grew up in the country, I felt a very powerful pull to the rocky shores, roaring waves, and deep forests of this wild place.
Both those who visit and those who live here find that the Lake speaks to an ancient, deep part of the self, and that the wilderness unearths the creative and spiritual essences of who we really are, essences that are too easily quashed under the pace of modern life.
And it is in the midst of modern life that many of us begin to wonder: is there another way to live? What if I headed North–not for a weekend, but permanently?
Well, that’s what happened to me.
And so I’ve started to write about my experiences relocating to Grand Marais, on the North Shore of Lake Superior, to help answer the question of what’s it really like?
Pick a month to get started learning about what life in the North is really like, and keep checking back for more. And if there’s a topic you’d like me to talk about related to moving to the North Shore, let me know as I would be happy to write about it!
